A prayer for international women's day
Jesus has always loved, celebrated, empowered and honoured women.
We believe that everyone gets to play. Sometimes this is called ‘the priesthood of ALL believers’. So on this day as we reflect on the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, maybe you would be led to pray for the women you know, and the women you don’t. Here’s a prayer to guide you:
As we celebrate and give thanks for the achievements of women,
we remember the women who have played a part in our lives.
Those who have
nurtured us,
taught us,
inspired us,
loved us.
Forgive us when we have limited women through inequality,
by stereotype,
by exclusion,
by presumption,
even in jest.
Jesus, make us a family who acknowledge the inequality many women still face,
working and praying so that all women may know equality
of healthcare,
of education,
of wealth,
of work.
We pray that all women may know themselves to be respected,
safe,
included,
empowered,
loved.
Holy Spirit would you empower the women in our community in fresh new ways as they
innovate,
serve,
lead,
love,
create
and follow you wherever you may lead.
We ask these things in the name of Jesus, who makes us all unique but valuable parts of the same body, by the same Holy Spirit.
Amen.
