SEXUALITY & IDENTITY
resources & more
We hold an ‘orthodox’ view of sexuality, identity and relationships. This is a broad phrase that means different things to different people.
To help, below is a list of useful resources, organisations and further reading that we’ll try to add to over time.
If you would like to meet with one of our pastoral team to discuss sexuality, identity, relationships or other concerns, to send us an email below. You request will be treated with confidentiality and compassion.
Everyone is welcome here. And we mean it.
Regardless of your sexuality, gender, race, religion or other factor, you’re so welcome to explore following Jesus with us at Nene Valley Vineyard. We’d love to support you on your journey.

Further Reading
Below are a number of books we would recommend that may be helpful for you for a number of different reasons. We’ve tried to make clear issues they do a particularly good job of.
History, human identity & the sexual revolution
STRANGE NEW WORLD
Carl Trueman condenses his more academic work (see next item). Explores how the sexual revolution happened as a result of a changing understanding of human identity.
THE RISE & TRIUMPH OF THE MODERN SELF
The original, more academic version of ‘Strange New World’. Well worth the time for understanding human identity and the underpinning of modern sexual and political culture.
LOVE THY BODY
Nancy Pearcey explores how the separation of ‘body’ and ‘mind/spirit’ has impacted our culture so deeply – and how the Christian notion of a unified body/soul/mind makes sense of our experience. She unpacks topics chapter-by-chapter.
Personal Accounts of same sex attraction & faith
THE PLAUSIBILITY PROBLEM
Ed Shaw (a pastor in Bristol) unpacks his experience of the difficultly of being someone who is same-sex attracted but celibate in the church. Lots we can learn!
A WAR OF LOVES
David Bennett was a gay rights activist who radically encountered Jesus, and now lives as a gay celibate Christian. His story, and comments in this book are extremely helpful.
GAY GIRL GOOD GOD
Jackie Hill Perry was a lesbian, who following her becoming a follower of Jesus found her sexuality change. This book encapsulates some of her story.
Miscellaneous
PEOPLE TO BE LOVED
Preston Sprinkle is a Bible scholar who founded the Center for Faith, Sexuality & Gender. He unpacks in detail Biblical arguments around homosexuality.
EMBODIED
Preston Sprinkle this time address gender, specifically transgenderism by unpacking what the Bible says, and sharing how his approach to loving those who struggle with their gender became more Christ-like.
THE CASE AGAINST THE SEXUAL REVOLUTION
Louise Perry was not a Christian when she wrote this book (she has since come a Christian). But she challenges the notion that the sexual revolution was ‘truly liberating’ for women. Note: there is swearing!
can we help?
If we, our church or pastoral team, can help you as we explore what is means to follow Jesus with our sexuality, relationships and identity, then please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Each person is treated with the dignity, respect and care that those who bear God’s image deserve (which, to be clear, is every human!)
